Sony’s Xperia Z is finally available on the US market, exclusively on T-Mobile and it started selling just a few days ago on July 17th. The pre-order page went live on July 16th and enthusiastic buyers who just couldn’t wait to buy this water and dust resistant high end device got a sweet deal as the company threw in a free Sony Bluetooth speaker for every pre-ordered device. The phone will be coming with T-Mobile’s new payment plans and costs $99 down payment and a payment of $20 monthly for 2 years. Buyers have the choice of going for the black or the limited purple Xperia Z.
Sony released the Xperia Z 5 months ago and it comes with the older Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, a quad-core 1.5 GHz Krait chip with Adreno 320 GPU. This is an amazingly designed glass-back Android device that boasts of a Full HD 1080p screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and powered by Sony’s Mobile Bravia Engine 2 that apparently improves the performance of the graphics unit and boosts clarity and color on the screen. To complement the fast processor, the Xperia Z has 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage memory but if you feel this is not sufficient, you can get a microSD card up to 64 GB to expand the memory.
The phone also has a 13.1 megapixels primary camera (you can check our camera review here) with Autofocus, LED flash, Geo-tagging capabilities, touch-focus, image stabilization, HDR recording, Sweep Panorama and face detection. The secondary front camera has a 2.2 megapixel sensor and can take full HD images and video at 30fps, just like the primary camera.
What makes the Xperia Z better than competition is the IP57 certification of water and dust resistance. Although Samsung recently launched the Galaxy S4 Active phone that is also perfect for use in harsh weather and even underwater, the S4’s build feels cheap as it is made out of plastic whereas the Xperia Z is made from an aluminum frame and scratch resistant shatterproof glass on the front and back. The phone comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out-of-the-box but we should expect an update to either Android 4.2 or 4.3 Jelly Bean in the near future.
The Sony Xperia Z also comes with all the standard features and specifications of a modern high end Android device including 4G LTE connectivity, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and MicroUSB.Bla bla bla bla
Sony’s current flagship the Xperia Z was announced back in January and made available later in February. The biggest drawbacks of the device is the fact that users cannot get to choose a version with more memory and that the phone comes with the older Qualcomm processor.
You can find the Xperia Z at your local T-Mobile stockiest or online on T-Mobile’s webstore https://explore.t-mobile.com/sony-xperia-z.
